I’m lazy when it comes to makeup– when I can find a shortcut with fantastic results I’m going to run with it.

Sure there are nights when looking this good can take up to an hour to piece together, but on the day-to-day reality, the quicker the better.

Which brings me to my new favorite morning routine, including my two new favorite go-to face products by glominerals.

The problem with face makeup is that it can go from real good to real bad real quick, and in the morning, the last thing you are thinking of before you’ve had your coffee is if your foundation is blended correctly into your neck.

Enter glominerals Pressed Base, a powder foundation that’s coverage is beyond amazing, without having to put much effort in.

I know what y’all are thinking. Powder foundations = cakey mc cake face. And believe me, the last time I used powder straight on my face was when I kept a Cover Girl chalky powdered, green compact in my back pocket in 8th grade.

Chalkiness, however, is NOT the case at all with this powder foundation, especially paired with their awesome primer.

All I do is put a pea sized amount of primer on my finger tips, warm it up real quick, and then smooth it over my face.

And since it’s clear, I don’t even worry if I have it right, just do it and go.

Next, I take a big fluffy face brush, and swirl the Pressed Base, I was the shade Natural Light, all over. You can’t believe how smooth it feels over your face.

Then I take a damp beauty blender, get a little more product, and press it onto my under eye circles and down the tip of my nose to brighten up that whole area.

if you do not have a beauty blender, stop everything and run out to get one now.

Where I used to have to use a primer, foundation, concealer, loose powder under the eyes, then pressed powder over the face, I’m now down to three simple steps and only two products, and my skin looks flawless.

Then, all I do before sweeping mascara on, is contour and bring some liveliness back to my face with this amazing bronzer that looks so natural and chic.

Suck in your cheeks like a fishy-kissy face, and bring the bronzer up from the most sucken in place on your face parallel to your lips, all the way up to where your ear meets your face. Do this a couple times, blending slightly upward so there are no harsh lines. NEVER blend down– you will look like you have a glowing beard.

Then I take whatever is left on my brush, and put the bronzer on the apples of my cheeks, a little on my nose and then a sweep on my forehead which gives me a super natural glow.

Then mascara, some lipgloss and I am out the door.

Sure it’s nice to look like a Kardashian when you are going out, but some days, you only have time to make yourself look like you have a glow– for all other days, I use 1,000 products, but every single day, I take the flawless lazy girl’s approach with these perfect glominerals.

xoxo,

LENT!

I’ve participated in lent since I was a little girl, and even in college convinced even my non-believer and even Jewish pals to participate with me.

I think it’s a great excuse to really challenge your will power and recharge your New Years Resolutions, as well as the religious aspect, if you are down with that!

In past years, I’ve given up beer, cheese, “gossiping,” cake, snacking– some years great, some years I only made it to the weekend (like the year I gave up all sweets and ate an entire cookie cake come that very next Sunday.)

This year, instead of just giving something up (french fries, my favorite food on the planet, so favorite I named one of my teddy bears “french fry” when I was 5) I am also giving myself a goal. I vow to work out at least 15 minutes a day until Easter.

I’m not saying I have to run 15 minutes, or even do cardio, but I have to do something to get my blood flowing and energy boosted 15 minutes a day.

Happy Fat Tuesday, kids!

What are you willing to give up?

xoxo,

Hi ladies and gents!

I know I haven’t written in ages, but that’s because I found a job that I love!

Anywho, I’m back, with regular posts and I think I’m going to start with a twice a week posting schedule.

Monday morning, and sometime mid week.

Here is my “mid-week” post that I’m totally stoked to share with you– (I know, it’s only Tuesday, womp.)

The Body Shop (we know it for letting us smell like tanning oil all year long with their amazing coconut scented everything) is opening up a dope new store that might replace Sephora for me right in King of Prussia!

Think of it as a Bath & Body Works, meets Sephora, meets Origins, meets beauty school, meets Lush.

What is even cooler, is they asked me to invite all my most loved WCW readers to attend their super chic opening, Saturday, February 16th from 10 AM- 9 PM.

And here is what you get for attending:

-A FREE BODY BUTTER, valued at $19, for the first 50 customers in line! (*withpurchase)
-During the OPENING WEEKEND ONLY, customers can enroll in the Love Your Body™ rewards program for FREE (value $10). The program saves customers 10% on all qualifying purchases, offers, special exclusives and rewards, and celebrates customers’ birthdays with a free gift.

I don’t know bou y’all but Sephora never gives me 10% off anythinggggg!

I’m so excited that one of my favorite brands is opening up so close to where I live, and I can’t wait to try out their makeup line and get beauty advice from the girls there!

Have you guys ever tried anything from The Body Shop?

Do tell!

xoxo,

my blogging view

I’ve been out of New York City for the past seven months, so it’s time to share with you some things about living in the suburbs that completely outweigh living in the city.

A house one block away.

1. Grocery Shopping

In New York, you have to schlep everything so matter what you buy, you must keep in mind that you are bringing it home with nothing else but your own two hands. This makes going to stores further from your apartment really trying, especially when a subway ride is part of it. When I went to Trader Joe’s before coming home, I had to walk 4 blocks from work, then another 5 blocks to the subway, then ride the subway with all my bags for one stop, transfer trains, ride another 15 minutes to Brooklyn, then walk another 4 blocks, up 4 flights of stairs and by then my hands would practically be bleeding from the grocery bags. In my old neighborhood, sometimes I would walk a mile there and back just to go to a decent sized grocery store. Now I just hop in my Chevy baby and cruise on down to whatever grocery store I want, buy as much or as little and then cruise on back! Not to mention the price of groceries is about double in New York. I know for a fact that kashi bars in New York are around $6 a box, and where I live now, they are about $3. But that is a total DUH.

Not to mention a Wegman’s, but that could be an entire post on it’s own.

Where I buy my produce and meat.

2. Music sounds the best in cars

There really isn’t much better than driving with the windows down listening to one of your favorite songs. In fact, it sounds better than in ear phone on the subway, in your apartment or even out at a club. When your sad, it’s your own little haven to get away from everything. When your happy, you feel like you are on top of the world. Driving hasn’t been a part of my life for 10 years, and I am welcoming it back with open arms. Also, I love NPR and now can listen to it in the comfort of my own car instead of making time for it at home, when I would rather be reading or watching Bravo.

a house 2 blocks from mine.

3. More room

Everywhere. Your apartment, your house– the park, the streets, the stores. Everywhere is infinitely more open, cleaner, less packed. When I wanted outdoor space in New York, I was forced to either head up on one of the roofs of my friends, laying hot and sticky on a tar ground, after climbing through a window to get there and often accompanied by random tenets who you never even bother to exchange names with, or at the park, overhearing the girl with her cat on a leash complaining about how her boyfriend didn’t get her the right Louise bag for Christmas to her friend on her blackberry.

You never know how important space is until you have it, really. And after living in apartments, or crowded houses since I was 18, it’s really great having not only more than one bathroom to choose from, but a kitchen table. Something I haven’t had since I was 22. I have a full kitchen, and room for a juicer and a coffee machine. I have a backyard where I grow my own tomatoes, jalapenos, herbs and flowers. I have a full sized couch and a bathroom that fits all my makeup and hair products and I even have a dining room table.

our dining room.

I really never thought about space or the importance of it until I was granted it this year, and after 10 years of not, I don’t think I will be going back to the latter anytime soon.

mom’s garden, 2 miles away from where I live.

4. Time

I once heard a Creative Director I used to work with say “Everywhere in Manhattan takes 30 minutes,” and that really is a pretty accurate explanation. If it’s less than 20 blocks, most times you walk, and if you walk, it’s going to take about 25-30 minutes, and if it’s past 20 blocks, you cab or subway, and by the time you get either of those, and get to your final destination, it’s about 30 minutes. It’s the most convenient city in the world, but by the time you walk there, or wait for transportation, get in line to get a slice of pizza, and finally pay, and walk back to your office, it’s going take about 30 minutes. And if a train is down in your neighborhood, going 5 miles can take up to an hour. I had a friend who lived in Queens where there was absolutely no easy way to get there. I either had to transfer 5 trains, or take one train from South Brooklyn, back through Manhattan up through Queens. To go 5 miles, it was either $30 cab ride, or an hour and a half on the train. I could have been to Philly by then via a car.

In the suburbs, that’s not the case. Your commute is straight forward. Your gym is on the way home, and you don’t have to carry your gym clothes with you on your shoulder. Those people’s commutes that are about 30 minutes, are 15 miles away, not 4. You have time after work to hang out with a friend, and still be home by 8 and going to the post office is not a 45 minutes nightmare. You certainly have more time to do the things you want, and you will never be waiting in line to get into Trader Joe’s.

5. Attitudes, or lack there of

The attitudes in the suburbs are completely different. Not saying there aren’t any in the Philly suburbs, trust me there are, but it’s completely different. First, in New York, no one talks to you ever. Unless they are a crazy person on the subway, you never get even a direct eye contact from anyone for days. In the suburbs, everyone talks. If you buy a coat, the lady at the check out says “ooooo I loved this coat, I think I totally need to get it.” In New York, they don’t even tell you the price, you have to look at the price displayed in the screen in front of you, give your card, or swipe, and leave. You can literally go a day without talking to a single sole, and you’ve been out of your house for 8 hours.

To be honest, this took some getting used to. Getting told that the yogurt I bought was super yummy is just not something I was used to, and having people talking to me in line about how the hangers she is returning made weird nipple like bumps on her shoulders of her sweaters in line Marshall’s really made me feel sort of uncomfortable, but it’s sort of nice now. Especially at Annie Sez when they offer you free coupons and discounts.

In New York, there is the occasional “So happy it’s Friday!” or weather commentary exchange in the elevator, but not much more.

Also regarding ‘tudes you will never again get told the restaurant you are walking into has a “private party” tonight by a 125 lb man with a stach in a bowler hat or that you are allowed in, but your friends aren’t by a pumped up meat head in a red v-neck That doesn’t fly, or even exist here. And although there are jerks ever present, since there is so much room at the bars you go to in the suburbs, you can easily just walk to the other side of the room.

So there are my top differences that I am really embracing, and although I miss my friends and restaurants, when I made a guest appearance in NYC for 36 hours back in December, I was really happy I don’t live there anymore, and I was even happier at the end of the day to return to my house with two couches and my little white Chevy.

my chevy babyyyyy

Since most of you have already abandoned your resolutions as you face forward into the realization that the next substantial break in the mundane will come around Memorial Day, or perhaps a self rewarded vacation, I am here to hold your hand and say, come with me, it will be alright.

It is now, a full week into the new year that we must remember ourselves, and come down hard, spiraling off of sugar, fat and alcohol binges as we fall face first back to reality. The remaining cookies from mom are just crumbles of what were: a few golden heads and limbs of animals sugar cookies, a single, white hershey kiss paper flag and a slice of fruitcake she knew we would never eat.

Our hope diminishing as we read In Touch and scroll through work emails you could care less about while waiting for the treadmill, vying to never attempt working out the first week of January ever again.

Front page we read: Kim Kardashian-Humphries is pregnant with Kanye West’s baby and we have heard the news and still can’t nor want to believe it. Who cares? Why is she still here?

But we can’t help but be reminded that she is and soon unto us, a baby will be born, and we shall name him: hope.

For if a zero personality, pretty faced and a big bootied sister who’s sex tape catapulted her into stardom can still be relevant after years and years of “why?” unanswered, perhaps there is hope in us all.

Maybe we should learn from this situation and realize nothing in this world is left uncalculated. That even a pregnancy can resurrect the almost dead.

So what does that say for you? The commoner just trying to get a job or lose 15 lbs by March?

It says nothing goes without effort. And no one can be successful without try.

So figure out whatever it is you need to get done, and do whatever it is you need to do to get there.

It’s that simple, and that hard to realize and accomplish.

I could sit here and rant about what I have planned for 2013, but how would that really help you?

Do you really need to be inspired to figure out what is next in your life? If you do, a self evaluation is certainly due, and now, seven days in, when the excuses have run out, where the trees are still bare and thoughts of distraction are at their smallest point in existence is when you need to decide your next step.

Write it down on a piece of paper, fold it up, put it in your wallet, and figure out the first move and run.

Because if there is anything more relevant today than Kim and Kanye’s unborn baby, it’s your own next chapter.

xoxo,

Here is a list to all you slackers out there that totally forgot to get whomever a present, and you’re on the way to the party.

1. MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION

This honestly is one of the best gifts, and it’s so easy the day of; just go to CVS or Acme or Gristedes or wherever on your way to the exchange and buy the magazine you are going to get them and a sharpie and on the cover write: Merry Christmas! I got you this magazine subscription for 1 full year. Love, ding dong.

Then put a reminder in your phone to buy the subscription when you get home that night or the next day. No one has to know.

Mom’s and ladies who love being crafty or cooking: Martha Stewert and Real Simple.

Fashionistas that don’t take themselves seriously: Glamour

Fashionistas that take themselves seriously: Vogue or Elle

Music/Edgy Cool Girl: Nylon

New Yorkers: Time Out or New York Mag

Fashionable Men: GQ

Gym Rat Man: Men’s Health

Man’s Man: Maxim

Philly Dad: Philadelphia Magazine

Most Dads or Brothers: ESPN Mag

For all other men: Esquire

2. Gift Certificate to a Restaurant

Pick any along your route and done. And the best thing, no rapping involved! I would stay away from chains unless it’s an inside joke or legit their favorite restaurant.

3. Train Tickets

If you are on the way home for the holidays, and you live in the city, and your friend, parents or brother can take a train to come see you, get them a round trip ticket to come up and see you and in the card write: Here is a round trip ticket to come spend the weekend with me in New York or Philly or Chicago!

So easy, thoughtful and nice, especially if they are planning to come up to the city in the new year anyway! Plus, you probably have to go to the station anyway on your way home.

4. Liquor

But not just a bottle of wine, everyone gives a bottle of wine. How about something festive, maybe Bailey’s or some Godiva Liquor. Think about what would be a nice after dinner treat that you never buy for yourself. and if you have time, pick up some holiday themed coasters!

5. Pedicure/Manicure Gift Certificate

Usually one on the way, usually a great gift.

Hope this helps in your last minute dilemas.

When in doubt, go with Bailey’s.

xoxo,

How stressful is looking for a new job?

Whoever says it’s as hard as having a real job is wrong. It’s worse. You search and search and spend all this energy every day to apply to your goal of however many jobs you want to apply to that day, and in turn, maybe one automated email responds and says they will get back to you if your resume meets their requirements.

And your resume, for whatever reason, rarely meets any of the requirements.

Oh, and all this is for free. You aren’t getting paid– even if you are on unemployment, it’s not enough to make up for the rejection and loneliness of sitting at panera or your apartment waiting for the call to bring you back to life.

So what do you do?

Don’t give up is the most important.

And trust me, this is also one of the hardest. No matter how much effort you put in one day, make sure you wake up the next and put in just as much the next. Think about your last job, right? Remember all those idiots you had to work with? Remind yourself: those idiots have jobs, so you will too. It just takes time, and a whole lot of energy. You have the time, just force through that energy.

Make human connections, not robotic.

You can apply to 101 jobs on company websites, but unless you know someone there, your resume is most likely going to be sent to Mars. Linked-in is a wonderful tool because it takes the middle man out and I really should have started relying on it more heavily way back in September, but at least the last couple weeks have been fruitful.

If you see a job on a company site, apply for it there, then look up on linked in who the recruiters are who work for that company. Connect with them and ask if you could send them your resume directly, most often they will be extremely helpful, and even if they don’t work in your exact department, they have meetings with or have met the person you need to be put in contact with and they can send your resume to that person directly.

Smile.

Be enthusiastic on the phone, people can hear you smile and respond to it. Have an excellent attitude at all times and listen, listen LISTEN to the person you are talking to, whether it be a recruiter or a potential employer.

Early Bird Gets the Worm.

I invented this tactic myself, but it truly works with emailing. The first and last thing you do as an employee of a company is check your email, right? So if you really, really want to get in contact with someone or have them read your email or resume, don’t send any emails from 4 PM until later that night, they will just get lost in the shuffle– wait and set your alarm to email them either after 10 PM at night, or wake up and email them from 5-7:30 AM because you will be the first email at the top of their inbox that day, guaranteed. People start checking their blackberries and work emails right after they get up or out of the shower or when they first get to work, so if you email first thing, you will be top in the mailbox and if they get it before any major issues come up when their co-workers get to work, they will think of you as top priority.

If you email someone after 4 PM, he is usually not in the mood to respond right then because they need to finish everything else by the end of the day, so he will put it off and get back to it tomorrow, or otherwise forget they even ever read it at all.

So try to get that bait before they have other things to do.

Look hot

When you interview, people, look your best. You don’t want to look like you are going out, but put on makeup, do your hair and wear earrings and or, if you are a guy, a watch.

Wear something that fits, if you have to get the size 12 pants, freaking do it, no one knows the number on your pants, but muffin top is a sin.

Don’t mention things that make you sound stupid

I left New York and now live with my boyfriend, but I would never say he is one of the reasons for me moving to Doylestown in an interview (sorry!) even though he is. As soon as you say boyfriend, you sound 16 so don’t mention that word at all. Also, maybe the guy interviewing you thinks you are hot and if you mention boyfriend, all the sudden he has a sour taste in his mouth. Never let them onto anything person, it’s too early in the game! Same goes with mentioning you love going out or “had a lot of fun studying abroad” (duh) or any other obvious no-no’s. Also, make sure you have something up your sleeve that is a hobby. Cooking, art– and if you mention either of these, be prepared to back it up!

“I love cooking stuff,” is not really a thoughtful response, but something like “I’ve recently gotten into making my own homemade pizzas, and it’s really fun to come up with different recipes using interesting ingredients!” works a lot better. They want to know you are a human being, not a robot, so if they ask you the spare time question be honest, but conservative. One time a friend of my interviewed a guy and he said he really enjoyed craft beers, since he had a lot of knowledge about them, and seemed genuine, it didn’t hurt his interview at all and he ended up getting the job! Had he said he loved drinking, things would have been a little different.

Also, try not to use any negative words, even if you are using them in a positive context.

“I don’t have any experience in that type of situation” sounds better as “I never came across that in my past experience.” Try to avoid words like don’t, can’t, won’t..and so forth.

These are just a few tips I have from the past couple of weeks when I have really seen a lot more strides in my interviewing process and hope they help you out as well.

Ok, I’m back to the grind.

xoxo,

It’s really not a cautionary tale, I just thought I needed to share with you my last visit to Whole Foods which may have been my last.

After having a particularly exhausting morning I decided that instead of visiting the Acme or Giant on my way home like I should have done, I would treat myself to my favorite thing ever, the broccoli salad from Whole Foods for lunch.

I also remembered we were out of a few things, so I would pick up those items as well. Lettuce, hot sauce and corn tortillas. Just your regular old Latin American House Girlfriend.

So I grab the lettuce, and start looking for the hot sauce, narrowly avoiding a kale smoothie demo and a girl on her phone complaining about the quinoa– not watching where she was going.

The hot sauce I wanted, siracha, natch, was $7 so I said out loud “fuck that, whole foods” and continued on my quest for some tortillas.

You would think they would be located in their “ethnic section” but apparently all Latins eat are blue corn tortilla chips and mango salsa.

So I head over to the dairy section where there were only flour tortillas left, which I wasn’t feelin’ at the mo. Thus began a journey Columbus and Magellan my not have even attempted to embark upon.

“Excuse me, can you please tell me where the corn tortillas are?” I said to the woman in flannel, tight jeans, hipster glasses, bangs (duh) and a beanie stocking the Kefir.

“What?”

“The corn tortillas, can you please tell me where they are?”

“There.” she points to the flour tortillas and walks away. Clearly there were none there, that is why I asked you senora sweedish milk drink, but she obvi wasn’t in the mood.

So I walk over to the deli section and ask someone who looks particularly unbusy, literally scratching her head and say:

“Can you please tell me where your corn tortillas are?”

“Um, sure. Let me walk you over to the dairy section.” and just as I go to tell her that there are none there, she walks with rapid speed, towards the dairy case where I just was, so I follow.

By the time I get there, I’m thoroughly annoyed and she says and points to the tortillas. “Here.”

“No, sorry, I need corn tortillas, these are flour, could they be in another section they would be in?”

“No clue, let me find out who is on Dairy Duty today so we can find them.”

At least she is being helpful, so we walk together to the back of the store where she asks a man in full fish monger attire like he’s Long John Silver if he is on Dairy Duty.

(First off, have you seen the fish section of whole foods? It holds about 7 lbs of fish, so why a man would have to be dressed like captain charlie castaway with a beard is just beyond obnoxious, and secondly, OF COURSE LONG JOHN SILVER IS NOT ON DAIRY DUTY YOU IDIOT can’t you see his attire, his roll is that of the fish monger today, even I could have told you that!)

So he runs by like he’s about to save a baby seal from being eaten by a tiger shark and looks in disgust at the question if he is on dairy duty.

“NO, Terry, I’m not on Dairy Duty!” UGH!

At this point I’ve had my fill, but I’ve gone so far to leave empty handed, so I take a deep breath as the deli counter girl shouts “Who is on dairy duty then!” after him.

He says “No clue!” without even turning around.

Just as this defeat is happening, the original hipster who was loading Kifir onto the dairy shelves rips around the corner and deli counter asks her if she is on dairy duty, to which she says “yes” and keeps walking.

Deli Counter runs after her through the swinging double doors and I see her ask where the corn tortillas are and points to me saying I need them. So she looks at me and says “they are in the dairy section” and I have just about lost hope in humanity.

“Yes, but they are not there, are there any in the back?” I ask, accentuating every syllable through my teeth.

“Um, I don’t know. Terry, who is on freezer duty today? They come in frozen.”

I’m about to throw the lettuce I am holding in the air and scream for the love of HUMANITY you freaking hipsters but I somehow remain calm.

Terry says she doesn’t know, just as fish monger walks by and Dairy Queen asks him who is on freezer duty, but of course he cannot be bothered because he must feed the family of small birds living in his beard and tend to the 8 lbs of fish in the fish section. “NO IDEA TERRY!” I have a feeling Terry isn’t well received by the whole food hipsters. Perhaps because she is in sketcher white sneaks, but maybe they are jealous that she is on another level of hipster? I don’t know. I haven’t been back to Williamsburg since July so I have no idea how far the bar is being pushed on irony these days.

So finally Dairy Queen huffs so loudly that I might blow over and walks through the swinging double doors and disappears.

I’m not sure what she is doing, but perhaps she is finding whichever groundling is on freezer duty so I just wait it out.

A few minutes later she returns holding 3 packs of frozen corn tortillas and asks if I plan on using them tonight, because if I am not, I should probably keep them frozen.

Which annoys me on a few levels considering you buy them on the shelves in the dairy section, but they really should remain frozen if you aren’t going to use them in a couple days?

And we are paying how much for this nonsense?

After picking up a few other things, and my broccoli salad, the tally comes to $53 which I nearly fainted at the site of and vowed to myself, never again.

But the tortillas are awesome though, and I will probably get them again next week.

xoxo,

And for everyone else, here is a never failing wonderful gift guide for everyone else you need to buy for.

Dramatic Candle Holders, $20-50

How gorgeous are these from Zara’s new home line?

And all of them are under $50.

You could always head over to Marshall’s and try to find some candle holders there. They are honestly so pretty and gorgeous and I don’t know any woman that wouldn’t be thrilled to get something so beautiful.

If you aren’t into these huge ones, try getting some like this, also from Zara:

Also, tea lights can be bought at the dollar store!

LL Bean Zip Top Tote, $40-$45

My really good friend gave me this last year for my birthday with my initials on it, and I’ve used it probably 100 times since I got it. If the person you are purchasing for has a really preppy ascetic, it is an absolute must. Oh, and you have to get initials on it, or might as well not even get it!

I know I mentioned this last year, but it’s really such a great gift.

Cosmetic Bags

A girl can really never have enough. Once a pressed powder explodes all over it, unfortch it’s usually dunzo and it’s onto the next one. Also, it’s a great way to be able to buy something chic, for less money than a full bag.

How cute are these?

Bonus points if you put a couple nail polishes or lip glosses inside!

Sequin anything!
